Product Description

PXI2931A  16-SPST Switching Type - Professional Switching Solutions

This PXI2931A 16-SPST Switching Type is a dual-purpose, high-power switching module. It integrates two different bus and specification switches within a single unit. Its main function is to precisely and reliably control the on-off (routing) of high-power signals in an automatic test system.

Description

This module acts like an "intelligent junction box" or "signal dispatch center" in the testing system. It can be controlled by software instructions (LXI Ethernet or PXI bus) to switch the internal switches on or off, thereby automatically completing the connection of the test lines without the need for manual cable insertion or removal, significantly enhancing the testing efficiency and automation level.

It has addressed a very practical pain point in the setup of the testing system: usually, for high-power (60A/300V) and general-purpose signals (5A/250V) switches, two separate devices (such as a bulky rack-mounted switch box and a PXI switch module) need to be purchased. However, this product combines the two into one.

Applications

1.Testing of New Energy Vehicles and Battery Packs

2. Aerospace and Defense Equipment Testing

3. Power Electronics and Industrial Power Supply Testing

4. Function Testing of Semiconductors and PCBs

In a system, both 'power flow' (high voltage / large current) and 'information flow' (low power control / measurement signals) need to be managed simultaneously.

Functionality

The PXI2931A can be summarized as a "2-in-1 Hybrid Switch" – its core design integrates high-power switches and PXI low-signal switches into a single 2U chassis

1. Dual-Bus Architecture: LXI + PXI 2-in-1

2. High-Power Switching Capability (LXI Section)

3. General-Purpose Signal Switching Capability (PXI Section)

4. Electrical Isolation Design

5. Flexible Control and Interfaces

Key Features

Dual-bus integrated design: One module supports both LXI (Ethernet) and PXI bus control methods simultaneously. It can be used as an independent rack-mounted device or embedded in a PXI system.
Mixed signal large/small signal switching capability:
LXI Section (High Power): 2U rack-mounted, 16-channel SPST. Supports 60A/300VDC high current/high voltage switching, with extremely low contact resistance (≤0.2mΩ), suitable for main power circuit control.
PXI Section (General Signals): 3U single-slot PXI, 16-channel SPST. Supports general signal switching with 5A/250VAC power supply, has a high operation frequency (1800 times per hour), and is suitable for routing control signals and measurement signals.
High-performance relay: Utilizes highly reliable relays with a long mechanical lifespan (1×10⁶ times), ensuring stability during long-term testing.
Interface form: The high-power section uses IXZ-2 terminal terminals (suitable for large current cables), and the PXI section uses DB-37 pin connectors (standard PXI interface).

FAQ

Q: Is this module LXI or PXI?

A: It is both. It's a 2-in-1 product: an LXI section (2U rack-mount, high power) and a PXI section (3U module, low-level signals) integrated into the same chassis, controlled uniformly via a single Ethernet port.

Q:Does it generate excessive heat when switching 60A high current?

A:Reply: No, it does not. With a contact resistance of ≤0.2mΩ, power dissipation per channel at 60A is only about 0.72W. Combined with internal forced-air cooling, it ensures stable long-term operation.

Q:Does the PXI section require a separate PXI chassis to function?

A: No, it does not. The PXI section is built directly into the LXI mainframe. It is controlled via the LXI Ethernet interface, eliminating the need for an external PXI chassis and controller.

Q:Is there interference between the high-power and low-signal channels?

A: No, there is not. The two sections are electrically isolated, ensuring that electromagnetic interference from high-current switching does not affect the accuracy of low-level signal measurements.

Q:Is the control software complicated? What programming options are supported?

A: Not at all. It supports standard LXI protocols, allows direct control via a Web interface, and provides IVI drivers. It is compatible with programming environments like LabVIEW, Python, and C++.
