Key Security Tips Summary

  • When measuring voltages exceeding AC/DC 30V, your finger must remain within the test lead protection area

  • When measuring currents >10A, the measurement time should not exceed 10 seconds, with intervals of at least 15 minutes

  • A buzzer will sound continuously when measuring >10A; >20A will display OL

  • When connecting the current input terminal, it is strictly forbidden to connect it in parallel to the circuit (this will blow the fuse)

  • After completing a high-current measurement, disconnect the current source before removing the test leads

  • When measuring resistances >1MΩ, wait several seconds for the reading to stabilize

  • Capacitors must be completely discharged before measurement

Key Usage Tips

The UNI-T UT107+Automotive Multimeter 12V Battery is a standalone handheld instrument without a PC communication interface (no RS232, USB, Bluetooth, or other data interfaces), therefore there is no accompanying PC software or mobile app. All measurement data must be manually recorded or read and recorded on the instrument itself using the data hold (HOLD) and maximum/minimum (MAX/MIN) functions.

FAQs:

What is the difference between the "12V Car Battery Test" function of the UT107+ and the voltage measurement function of a regular multimeter?

Ordinary multimeters can only measure "virtual voltage" (static open-circuit voltage) when testing batteries. Many severely aged batteries can display 12V under no-load conditions, but fail immediately upon startup.

Difference: The UT107+Automotive Multimeter 12V Battery's battery testing function uses a miniature load resistor internally. It measures the battery's on-load voltage under a certain load current. If the voltage drops below 11V or even lower under load, the meter screen will clearly indicate low battery power or aging, reflecting the battery's true health status (health level/CCA basic assessment) more accurately than the ordinary voltage setting.

How to use UT107+ to find "dark current" (leakage fault) in a car?

If a car battery dies after being parked overnight, it's usually because some ECU or electrical components didn't go into sleep mode after the car was locked (commonly known as a short circuit).

Steps:

  • Turn off all electrical appliances in the car, remove the key, and close all doors (if there's a hood release switch, manually press it to simulate a shutdown).

  • Connect the red probe of the UT107+ multimeter to the 20A high-current jack, and set the knob to the 20A DC current range (DC A).

  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the car battery.

  • Connect the multimeter in series between the battery's negative terminal and the disconnected negative terminal (red probe to the battery terminal, black probe to the battery terminal).

  • Wait 10-20 minutes for the vehicle system to fully shut down. The normal sleep current for a vehicle is generally below 50mA (0.05A). If the reading exceeds 100mA, there is a short circuit. In this case, you can pinpoint the short circuit by removing the fuses one by one from the fuse box.

Can it be used to test the high-voltage system of new energy vehicles (pure electric/hybrid)?

Absolutely not! It's extremely dangerous!

Safety standards are a red line in the auto repair industry. The high-voltage DC systems (power batteries, inverters, drive motors) of new energy vehicles typically operate at 300V to 800V or even higher, and carry extremely high energy.

Reason: The UT107+ is a CAT II 1000V / CAT III 600V standard, primarily designed for the 12V/24V low-voltage electrical systems of traditional gasoline vehicles. Testing the high-voltage systems of new energy vehicles requires a professional high-voltage multimeter (such as UNI-T's specialized new energy maintenance instrument) with a high safety protection level of CAT III 1000V or CAT IV 600V and equipped with insulated high-voltage probes.

Why is there no response when measuring current, or why is the display speed extremely slow?

90% of the time, the cause is a blown current-range fuse inside the multimeter.

Troubleshooting: During auto repair, if the current range is used to measure the car's 12V power supply in parallel, or if the surge current of several hundred amps during engine start-up accidentally exceeds the multimeter's capacity, the fuse will blow instantly.

Replacement: The UT107+Automotive Multimeter 12V Battery typically contains a high-specification ceramic fast-blow fuse (e.g., milliamp and 20A range). The back cover must be removed to replace it with an explosion-proof ceramic fuse of the same specifications (size, current, and voltage breaking capacity). Never use copper wire or ordinary glass fuses; otherwise, subsequent misoperation could cause the instrument panel to explode or ignite the car's wiring harness.
