The PIL 50-120 Series SPDT Shield Reed Relay Card is part of the 50-110/115/120/125 PCI General-Purpose Reed Relay Card family. The card integrates 32 independent, shielded SPDT reed relays with sputtered ruthenium contacts and is specifically designed for low-level signal switching applications requiring high bandwidth, low crosstalk, and high isolation.
The card connects via a 200-pin female LFH connector on the front panel, supports the standard PCI bus interface (short form factor), and requires only a single +5V power supply. All relays are manufactured by Pickering Electronics, a sister company of Pickering.
Note:
50-120-021 has been marked as having a replacement available; the recommended replacement model is 50-110B-021 (32×SPDT unshielded reed relay card). The two models are pin-compatible and share the same software driver.
For over 10 years, Xi'an Mingxi Taida Information Technology Co., Ltd. (MXTD) has stood at the forefront of technical excellence, creating tailored solutions that drive industrial efficiency. Our integrated business approach harmonizes precision product R&D, cross-border commerce, and dedicated customer engineering services to support your entire asset lifecycle. Backed by extensive manufacturing expertise, we engineer ruggedized hardware portfolios built to maintain peak stability in critical, heavy-duty applications.
Our core operational strengths include:
| High-Density Integration | Single-board integration of 32 independent, shielded SPDT reed relays; short-length, single-slot PCI form factor |
| Shielding Architecture | Each relay channel is independently shielded, significantly reducing crosstalk between channels and improving signal integrity. |
| Sputtered Ruthenium Contacts | Features high-quality sputtered ruthenium contacts to ensure extremely low contact resistance and exceptional long-term stability |
| Optimization of Low-Level Signals | Designed specifically for switching microvolt-level low-level signals, with a differential thermal offset of <10 µV |
| Quick Switch | Typical operation/release time <0.5 ms (typically 250 µs) |
| PCI Bus Compatible | Compliant with PCI Specification 2.0, powered by +5V only, plug-and-play |
| Full driver support | Provides VISA/IVI/Kernel drivers, supports Windows XP/Vista/7 and major development environments |
| Board-Mounted Spare Relays | A backup relay is integrated onto the circuit board to facilitate quick maintenance and reduce downtime |
Shielded vs. Unshielded Comparison- PIL 50-120 Series

Basic switching functions- PIL 50-120 Series
The 50-120-021 provides 32 independent SPDT (Form C) shielded reed relay channels, each with three terminals:
Default state: All signal paths are between terminal C and the corresponding terminal B. After energizing a relay, the path to terminal B is broken, creating a signal path between terminals C and A.

Q: Why is there still significant interchannel crosstalk or noise pickup in high-frequency testing (or weak signal testing) after selecting the 50-120 shielded series?
A:
While the 50-120 features internal metal shielding for the relay itself, its advantages are completely negated if the shielding of external interfaces and cables is neglected during system integration.
Check the grounding of external cable shielding: The 50-120 outputs signals via a 200-pin large LFH connector on the front panel. Pickering's officially customized shielded cable assemblies must be used.
Isolate inductive interference: If the twisted-pair shielded cable from the front panel is routed alongside high-current AC power lines, high-frequency noise can penetrate the cable through capacitive coupling. Strictly separate cable trays should be used for wiring.
