As the "skeleton" of a PXI system, the chassis provides power, cooling, communication buses, and timing synchronization signals to all modular instruments within the system.
NI offers a complete line of PXI Express chassis, ranging from 2 to 18 slots. The PXIe-1071 is positioned as an entry-level, low-slot model within this product line.
The PXIe-1071 uses a 3U Eurocard form factor with a total of four slots (one system controller slot and three hybrid peripheral slots). The backplane is based on PCI Express technology. The system controller slot is connected to the three peripheral slots via three x4 PCI Express links, each providing 1 GB/s of dedicated unidirectional bandwidth, for a total system bandwidth of 3 GB/s. An additional x1 PCI Express link connects to a PCI Express-to-PCI bridge on the backplane, providing 32-bit 33 MHz PCI signals for hybrid compatible PXI modules.
