The auto-zero channel is a dedicated internal channel built into the NI-9213 C-Series Thermocouple Input Module for measuring and compensating for system offset errors. Measurement accuracy can be significantly improved by subtracting the auto-zero value from each thermocouple reading.

Accuracy Improvement:

  • Offset Error in High-Resolution Mode: 4 µV (Typical) / 6 µV (Maximum)
  • Offset error is further reduced after enabling auto-zeroing

Dual timing mode

  • High-resolution mode: Conversion time: 55 ms/channel. Sampling rate: 1 S/s (all channels). Features: Highest accuracy, 50/60Hz noise suppression (60 dB).
  • High-speed mode: Conversion time: 740 µs/channel. Sampling rate: 75 S/s (all channels). Features: High sampling rate, wide signal bandwidth (78 Hz)

The NI-9213 has a built-in hardware anti-aliasing filter that follows the Nyquist sampling theorem to ensure no frequency aliasing at the sampling frequency.

Use small-gauge thermocouple wires: Reduce heat transfer to/from the terminal junction

Avoid proximity to heat/cold sources: Keep thermocouple wires away from hot or cold objects

✅Mize adjacent heat sources and airflow: Minimize heat sources and airflow near the terminals

Maintain stable ambient temperature: Avoid drastic temperature fluctuations

Module orientation: Ensure the NI-9213 terminals are facing forward or upward

Maintain stable orientation: Do not frequently change the module orientation

Wait for thermal equilibrium: Wait for the thermal gradient to stabilize after system power changes

Bundle wiring: Bundle thermocouple wires near the spring terminal connector

Use extension wires of the same material: If extension wires are required, use wires of the same material as the thermocouples
